Providence forward Bryce Hopkins will enter the transfer portal after playing just three games this season, per Rob Reinhart.
The portal opens on Monday.
The senior forward averaged 17 points and 8 rebounds during his limited time on the court after recovering from a torn ACL last season. He is expected to attract interest from many programs, including Georgetown and St. John’s, despite the concerns about his health but he will be entering the portal with a “DO NOT CONTACT” tag, indicating his mind is likely already set on his next team.
Hopkins has not been officially granted a medical redshirt year but he likely will. After returning from his torn ACL in December, Hopkins suffered a bone bruise that kept him out for the remainder of the season.
“I feel bad for the kid,” Providence coach Kim English said in January. “He played 13 games last season and lost his junior season, still recovering from last season’s injury bled into the first eight games of this season…And then three games in, he he hurts his knee again.”
“There is a chance that if he plays [again], he loses his senior season. It’s tough, [a redshirt] is absolutely on the table he’s focused is on just trying to get better and feel better every day.”
Hopkins began his college career in Kentucky before transferring to Providence after his freshman year. In the NIL era, it is more and more common to see a player wear multiple jerseys throughout their college careers.
