The Mountain West Player of the Year and New Mexico star point guard Donovan Dent will enter the transfer portal, per multiple reports.
Dent, the junior guard, averaged 20.2 points, 6.4 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game this past season. He also shot 49.0% from the field and 40.9% shooting from 3-point range. As a top-10 scorer from this past season, he instantly becomes one of the best available names.
In his three year career, Dent has played each season at New Mexico under Richard Pitino. This past season Dent led New Mexico to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where the Lobos fell to Michigan State. Dent had 14 points and six assists in the loss after scoring 21 points with six assists against Marquette in the first round.
Pitino’s name has circulated around several high-major job openings. Perhaps Dent will follow Pitino if he decides to leave New Mexico. Joe Tipton of On3 reported Dent will consider a possible return to New Mexico.
Dent is originally from California and played high school basketball at Centennial. He won a state title his senior year as well as California Mr. Basketball.
