Owen Freeman, a 6-foot-10 transfer big man out of Iowa, has committed to Greg McDermott and Creighton, per his Instagram. The forward is currently ranked the No. 8 overall player in the transfer portal by 247Sports.

As a Hawkeye in 2024-25, Freeman averaged 16.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while shooting 63.8% from the field. He’s only a sophomore and has spent his two-year career in Iowa City. The big man was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year by the media in 2023-24.

Freeman had finger surgery in February and only appeared in 19 games for Iowa. He’s expected to make a full recovery and return to the court next season. Freeman will have two years of eligibility remaining at Creighton.

As a prospect, Freeman was a three-star and helped Moline (IL) to an unbeaten run at the state title. His play was good enough to earn him to Associated Press All-State honors.

Freeman is the first portal addition for Creighton this offseason. He’ll join four-star freshman forward Hudson Greer as a newcomer on the 2025-26 roster.
