The transfer portal has only been open a couple of days, but St. John’s has already scored a major coup.

Rick Pitino’s club landed Arizona State transfer Joson Sanon, as first reported by ESPN.

“Coach Pitino believes in me and my potential and what he can do for me,” Sanon told ESPN. “He preaches working hard, and I want to show him I’m the hardest working player that’s ever played for him. The way Coach P teaches defense is something I want to invest my time into.”

A 6-foot-5 native of Brockton, Mass., Sanon averaged 11.9 points and 3.4 rebounds last season under coach Bobby Hurley. He went for 28 points in a loss to Utah on March 1.

He is repped by Derek Malloy of LIFT Sports Management.

The 6-foot-5 Vermont Academy guard initially committed to Arizona in March 2024 over Kentucky, Boston College, Overtime Elite, Kansas, and UConn, but in the wake of Caleb Love opting to return to Arizona for a fifth season of college, Sanon took his talents to play for the Sun Devils.

Now he comes to a St. John’s team that is expected to lose Deivon Smith, Kadary Richmond and Aaron Scott.

Pitino and his staff are also involved for Providence transfer Bryce Hopkins, who will visit Georgetown and St. John’s this week.
