Koa Peat, the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2025 class, has committed to Tommy Lloyd and Arizona. He made the announcement live on the Pat McAfee show.
Peat — the 6-foot-8, 235-pound power forward from Perry (AZ) and the Compton Magic Adidas 3SSB AAU program — chose Arizona over his other finalists Arizona State, Baylor, Houston and Texas.
“I just felt like Arizona was the right situation for me,” Peat said during the announcement. “Coach Tommy is a great coach. They have great assistant coaches over there for my development. And they’re a winning program. So I’m just excited to come down and play in McKale.”
The McDonald’s All-American has foregone the prep school route and decided to stay at Perry all four years of high school. There, Peat’s won four-straight state titles and amassed a record of 107-13. He’s also been named Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year three times, including his senior season after averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds per game. He’ll have a chance to be the hometown hero as a Wildcat. “Koa is first and foremost a tremendous person,” Perry coach Sam Duane Jr. told ZAGSBLOG. “He is mature above his age. He is a team first player. He is a positionless player that will have an instant impact. He plays with tremendous force but what is often overlooked is his high basketball IQ and how well he processes the game. He has a great desire to win and will do whatever it takes to win!” Peat is the highest-ranked prospect to commit to the Wildcats since Nico Mannion in 2019. He’ll join forwards Dwayne Aristode and Bryce James in Arizona’s 2025 recruiting class. Peat will sign on April 16 at Perry.
