Former Virginia big man Blake Buchanan will transfer to Iowa State, he announced on Instagram.

Buchanan — the 6-foot-11, 225-pound forward from Coeur d’Alene (ID) — averaged 5.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 22.0 minutes per game for Virginia in 2024-25. He started 22 games and shot 53.4% from the field.

As a prospect, Buchanan was ranked as a four-star inside the top-100 of 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He is ranked the No. 80 player in the portal by Evan Miya.

Buchanan is Iowa State’s third portal addition this cycle, joining Eastern Washington transfer guard Mason Williams and Purdue Fort Wayne transfer forward Eric Mulder. The big man has played two seasons at Virginia and will have two years of eligibility to use with the Cyclones.

He’ll also team up with 2025 prospects Jamarion Batemon, Killyan Toure, Macari Moore and Xzavion Mitchell on the 2025-26 Iowa State roster.
