FISHERS, IN — It didn’t take long after Darian DeVries was hired as the head coach of Indiana to contact signee Trent Sisley. Now, the four-star forward has reconfirmed his commitment to the Hoosiers and will play for the flagship university of the state he grew up in.
“Coach DeVries reached out super quick,” Sisley, the Lincoln City (IN) native told ZAGSBLOG. “I’m starting to build a good relationship with him and he has a few staff members now, starting to build some guys out of the portal. I’m a hometown guy. I just wanted to be there. So it’ll be fun.”
DeVries was in the building to see Sisley, his only high school recruit for next season, at Chipotle Nationals on Wednesday. The forward scored six points with five rebounds and two steals during Montverde’s 67-52 loss to Dynamic Prep. Several Indiana fans were spotted in the crowd, and Sisley took time postgame to interact with them.
“It was great,” Sisley said of playing in front of DeVries and fans. “He reached out to me today, said he’d be here. Obviously, being an hour away is pretty efficient. It was cool to play in front of this state again and to see [DeVries] here.” Prior to DeVries taking the Indiana job, Sisley hadn’t talked to him before. But now the two are starting to build a rapport. “He obviously likes the way I play,” Sisley said. “I can play in a lot of different spots and just do whatever he needs from me.” Sisley’s a power forward, but he has the ability to knock down shots from the outside. He’s versatile and said he’s shot over 40% from deep at Montverde. “I’m just an inside out guy right now,” Sisley said. “I like to finish around the rim. I’ve been shooting the ball pretty well. That part of my game has gotten a lot better and obviously that’s what’s going to translate to college a lot more. So just keep on working on that and try to play as hard as I can the whole time.” Sisley plans to be on Indiana’s campus sometime in June. The part he’s looking forward to most? “There’s summer workouts, things like that,” Sisley said. “But I think it will be pretty special to step on the court at Assembly Hall for the first time, go through practices in there. Obviously, the games will be amazing.” Basketball is in Sisley’s blood. His father, Matt Sisley, played two years at the JUCO level before transferring to SEMO for the last two years of his college career. His older brother, Blake Sisley, played a year of college basketball at Evansville and then Wright State. Trent will look to carry the torch at Indiana. “My house is 1:15 away from campus,” Sisley said. “So it’s super special to be able to get that opportunity for the next four years. It’ll be a blast. I’m just trying to play as hard as I can every time I step on the court, whether it’s at Assembly Hall, a road game, tournament games, whatever it’s going to be.
