On the same night that point guard Quentin Snider committed to Illinois, coach John Groce’s club got still more good news when 2014 power forward Cliff Alexander Tweeted that he will take an official to campus.
“Taking a official visit to U of I oct 26 #TurnUp,” he Tweeted.
The 6-foot-9 Chicago Curie recently took his first official visit to DePaul. Next up is Arizona this weekend.
Alexander will take an official to Kansas Oct. 4 for “Late Night in the Phog,” and will also visit Memphis (Oct. 18). He has also mentioned visiting Louisville.
Kentucky, Michigan State, Baylor and Indiana are also on his list.
Alexander had an in-home visit this week with Kansas that went well by all accounts.
“I still like Kansas,” Alexander told SNY.tv recently. “They develop their players. Coach [Bill] Self develops their players. My main man Jerrance [Howard] got the assistant job there. That’s my main man, he’s like a bigger brother to me.”
Having already secured Snider and Leron Black, Illinois would score a huge recruiting coup if they were to land Alexander as well.
Draft Express projects Alexander as the No. 3 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, behind fellow bigs Jahlil Okafor and Myles Turner.
Wherever he lands for college, USA coach Don Showalter said Alexander can be dominant.
“Cliff is dominating play in the paint,” he told SNY.tv previously. “His jump hook is unstoppable and he is making shots from 12-15 feet. Terrific timing on blocking shots. He will continue to get better as his left hand develops. And he’s a great person.”
