With Brooklyn Lincoln guard Isaiah Whitehead set to commit somewhere other than Syracuse on Thursday, Orange head coach Jim Boeheim spent Wednesday afternoon at Pope John XXIII in Sparta, N.J.
Boeheim and assistant Adrian Autry watched 2015 center Moustapha Diagne, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound prospect ranked No. 26 in the class by Rivals.
“He’s seen him several times,” Pope John coach Jason Hasson told SNY.tv. “He just wanted to come down and watch him work out a little bit. He watched him lift after school and then watched him in the open gym.
“They’re trying to get him and Thomas Bryant together in that class. They’re trying to recruit both of those guys. They think they can play them both at the forward spot because they both do different things.”
Diagne attended the recent Syracuse Elite Camp and may visit again soon unofficially.
“We’re just trying to get him up there when the kids are up there and check out a game,” Hasson said.
Seton Hall and Rutgers are expected in today (Thursday) and Minnesota, Florida and Kansas are expected in next week, Hasson said.
Diagne holds offers from Syracuse, Villanova, Memphis, Penn State, Rutgers. St. John’s, Cincinnati, UConn, Seton Hall, West Virginia, Temple, Cleveland State, Oregon State, Iona, Manhattan, La Salle and Rhode Island.
He has high interest from Kansas, Ohio State, Florida, Pitt, Illinois, Marquette, UCLA and Minnesota.
