Sophomore point guard Davontay Grace scored Thomas Jefferson’s first 10 points in OT and finished with 17 points and 14 assists to lead the Orange Wave to an 87-79 victory Thursday over Boys & Girls in Brooklyn AA action.
Thomas Jefferson is now in sole possession of first place in the league.
“We’ve still gotta see what Lincoln and Boys & Girls do,” Jefferson coach Lawrence Pollard said. “Right now we’re in the driver’s seat.”
Junior forward Joel Wright (pictured) added 30 points and 21 rebounds for Thomas Jefferson.
Pollard said Wright now holds offers from Fordham, Providence, West Virginia and Central Florida, and that St. John’s and Seton Hall are also involved.
“Providence is putting the fullcourt press on him,” Pollard said. “Fordham is putting the fullcourt press on him.”
Thomas Jefferson meets Long Island Lutheran Saturday in the Big Apple Invitational at Baruch College, and Paterson Catholic on Monday at the Freedom Fighters Challenge at Paterson Catholic.
A Feb. 5 date with Lance Stephenson and Lincoln looms ahead.
Anton Dickerson paced Boys & Girls (11-5, 9-2 Brooklyn AA) with 18 points, Richard Brown III added 16 and Lamount Samuell Jr. had 14. Sophomore Mike Taylor, who has offers from Rutgers and St. John’s and interest from Pitt, scored all 11 of his points in the fourth quarter.
