Kadeem Allen, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound shooting guard from Hutchinson (KS) College, verbally committed to Arizona.
Allen also considered Kansas and Cincinnati.
“I chose Arizona because of the great coaching staff and when I wasn’t playing good ball this summer, coach [Sean] Miller and the entire staff kept their faith in me,” Allen told SNY.tv by text.
Allen averaged 17.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists last season.
Hutch assistant Jay Cyriac said Allen was the team’s leading scorer and defender last season.
“He’s a 6-3 combo guard,” Cyriac said. “He can play both positions equally well. He has a knack for scoring. He’s an excellent defensive player. He led the team in scoring and steals last year. He just brings a very high basketball IQ and a defensive mindset that you usually don’t find at a college level. He’ll get his hands on as many balls a as possible and that usually converts to steals and layups.”
Said Allen: “I will still play my same game, being aggressive on defense, being aggressive on offense, getting my teammates better and being a leader out on the court.”
He joins Los Angeles point guard Parker Jackson-Cartright and New Orleans power forward Craig Victor in Arizona’s 2014 class.
