Stanley Johnson is the latest high-profile recruit to set his announcement for Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
The news was first reported by Ben Roberts of NextCats, who spoke with Johnson’s high school coach, Gary McKnight.
The 6-foot-6 Johnson joins Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones and Cliff Alexander as big-time prospects who will announce Friday on ESPNU.
He will choose from among Arizona, Kentucky, USC, Oregon and Florida, although it may be more of a three-team race between the first three.
Johnson recently told SNY.tv that following his recent visit to USC he would be taking a break before any future visits and hadn’t set dates for Oregon or Florida.
“I’m not really into decision-mode at this point,” he told SNY.tv last week.
Now, apparently that has changed and Johnson is ready to pull the trigger.
Arizona has long been considered a favorite, and has a pipeline to Johnson’s AAU team, the Oakland Soldiers.
Kentucky is Kentucky, and Johnson told SNY.tv he was still considering them.
And USC is the local option that has made a strong impression on him.
“It really is close as a person going through recruitment,” he told SNY.tv last week. “They’re doing a great job recruiting me. Both schools [Kentucky and Arizona] are.”
