Seton Hall pledge Isaiah Whitehead “should” make the McDonald’s All-American Game, longtime New York recruiting expert and McDonald’s voter Tom Konchalski told SNY.tv.
“I think he should,” Konchalski said. “I can’t say he’s going to, but I think he should, especially being the MVP and the star of stars at the Elite 24. I think that really solidified it in most people’s eyes. And then going down and playing as well as did in City of Palms, where he was MVP. I would be very surprised if he didn’t make it, and he certainly deserves it. He’s one of the best guards in the country.”
The 6-foot-4 Whitehead was one of 19 New York City players nominated and stands the best chance among Big Apple players to make the game. If he does, he would join former Lincoln stars Lance Stephenson, Sebastian Telfair and Stephon Marbury in the McDonald’s Game.
Fellow Seton Hall commit Khadeen Carrington and Rutgers-bound Mike Williams — both of Bishop Loughlin — were also nominated.
If Whitehead makes the game, he would be the first Seton Hall commit since Andre Barrett and the late Eddie Griffin made the game in 2000 and the first New York City player since Loughlin’s JayVaughn Pinkston in 2010.
Pinkston and Villanova play at Seton Hall Wednesday night.
The final McDonald’s rosters, consisting of 24 boys and 24 girls, will be announced on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
The game is set for April 2 at the United Center in Chicago.
