No.1-ranked Arizona scored a major recruiting coup late Friday night when Tyler Dorsey verbally committed.
“Just committed to the University of Arizona #BearDown” he Tweeted.
Arizona Coach Sean Miller was reportedly at Friday night’s St. John Bosco-JSerra game.
“They recruited him hard since the eighth grade,” Jerrid Dorsey, Tyler’s father, told SNY.tv. “Plus, he loves Sean Miller.”
Dorsey is the No. 5 player in the Class of 2015 according to Rivals.
“He’s a lead guard who can pass, score and be a lockdown defender,” Jerrid Dorsey said.
Jerrid previously told SNY.tv that the Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco guard has always been a floor general, even though he’s a natural scorer.
“At the end of the day, that’s what he wants to do,” Jerrid Dorsey said. “That’s where he feels his future is. He really believes he has it in himself to to become a great point guard.
“He’s such a good scorer, but at the same time he makes the right basketball play. Playing the point is the right decision.”
Dorsey also held offers from Duke, Louisville, Kansas, Texas. UConn, Cal, UCLA and USC among others.
Arizona also has a pledge from 2014 point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright of Los Angeles Loyola.
