KETTERING, Ohio – Sitting out of Friday night’s win over Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne at Flyin’ to the Hoop with a left knee injury, Findlay Prep point guard Rashad Vaughn was able to give an update on his recruitment.

Earlier this week, North Carolina head coach Roy Williams visited the 6-foot-5 point guard ahead of his Feb. 14 official visit. Vaughn discussed what Roy said to ESPN’s 17th-ranked player in the 2014 class.

“He was talking about this season, and you know he needs some scorers,” Vaughn said. “They can see me fitting in well with the team they got coming in next year.”

Williams also visited 2015 Bishop Gorman big men Stephen Zimmerman and Chase Jeter on his visit to Vegas.

The team coming in that Vaughn mentions for the Tar Heels is a 2014 class that features three top-20 players, as forwards Justin Jackson and Theo Pinson will join point guard Joel Berry in Chapel Hill next year. According to Scout.com, North Carolina currently has the fourth-ranked class for next season.

Another strong contender in the Vaughn sweepstakes is Kentucky. Coach John Calipari is expected to watch him Monday at 11:30 a.m. when Findlay Prep plays Wesleyan Christian Academy (NC) at the Hoophall Classic in an ESPNU game, according to Eric Bossi of Rivals.

While in Ohio, Vaughn said he considered visiting the Kentucky campus.

“I was actually gonna drive down there and to go on campus, but terrible snow (changed that),” said Vaughn.

Vaughn is also considering Kansas, Iowa State and UNLV, and is expected to take officials at some point to Kansas and Kentucky.

For the rest of the year the focus is just on this season, and the goals are simple.

“Just win a national championship and get better,” Vaughn said.
