PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Marquette guard Jerel McNeal and Rutgers guard Mike Rosario have been chosen as the recipients of the BIG EAST weekly men’s basketball honors through games of Sunday, Feb. 1.
McNeal was chosen as BIG EAST Player of the Week for the third time this season after he averaged 26.5 points, 6.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 blocks to help Marquette beat a pair of ranked opponents. McNeal started his week with 27 points in a 71-64 victory at Notre Dame. In a 94-82 win over Georgetown, the senior filled up the box score with a game-high 26 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, five steals and three blocks. For the season, McNeal is third in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 19.7 average and third in steals with a 2.0 mark..
Rosario was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors for the second time after she averaged 20.5 points in a 1-1 week. He had 25 points in a 70-67 loss at Seton Hall. In a 75-56 win over DePaul, Rosario notched 16 points, five rebounds and three steals. He continues to be the BIG EAST’s top freshman scorer with a 17.5 average and leads the league in free throw shooting, making 85.7 percent.
