TarikWest Virginia on Sunday landed a pledge from junior college point guard Tarik Phillip of Brooklyn and Independence (Kan.) Community College.

“I just committed to West Virginia,” the 6-foot-3, 180-pound Phillip told SNY.tv by phone. “I feel like it was the right fit. It was close to home. The town was very nice. The players was nice. They showed me a good time. It was pretty cool.”

Phillip said he also considered Memphis, Kansas and Oklahoma State, but didn’t visit them.

“I didn’t visit those schools, I was planning on visiting them,” he said.

Phillip averaged 18.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game and was the MVP of the Jayhawk Conference.

West Virginia returns Juwan Staten, who flirted with jumping to the NBA, so Phillip may back him up in some capacity.

“I don’t think I will be the starting point guard,” he said. “Juwan’s still there. I don’t know what role I will be playing.”

    BOWERS TO AUBURN

Onetime Florida State commit Cinmeon Bowers is headed to Auburn to play for new coach Bruce Pearl and will sign on Wednesday.

“Just Committed To Auburn University, Signing Day Wednesday #GodIsGood #TigerNation,” Bowers Tweeted.

The 6-foot-6 Bowers and two teammates from Chipola (FL) College were arrested in January and charged with tampering with evidence after they ate marijuana upon being stopped by the Marianna (FL) Police Department. In March, FSU released him from his Letter of Intent.

In September, Bowers chose FSU over Memphis, Florida, Louisville and Missouri.
