Former Oregon point guard Dominic Artis will visit St. John’s this weekend, sources confirmed to SNY.tv.

St. John’s coach Steve Lavin recruited Artis in high school and should Artis commit to the Johnnies, he would have to sit one year per NCAA regulations before having two years of eligibility.

The 6-foot-1 Artis was one of three players — along with Brandon Austin and Damyean Dotsondismissed last month from the Oregon program after they were not charged despite accusations of rape from an incident on March 8. The DA’s office “no-filed” charges in the sexual assault.

Artis averaged 4.1 points and 2.2 assists last season for the Ducks.

St. John’s is reviewing the case to evaluate if Artis is a safe bet to recruit because of the charges in Oregon and the potential backlash from St. John’s students and fans.

With rising senior guards D’Angelo Harrison, Jamal Branch, Phil Greene and Sir’Dominic Pointer set to graduate and rising sophomore Rysheed Jordan potentially headed to the NBA, St. John’s is focusing on Artis, Roselle Catholic guard Isaiah Briscoe and Baton Rouge (LA) Madison guard Brandon Sampson.

Briscoe made the USA U18 team and is expected to cut his list later this month while Sampson is expected to visit St. John’s this summmer.
