CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — When Kentucky coach John Calipari called to offer a scholarship on Sunday, it made quite an impression onThon Maker
“[It] fits in with other schools like Duke, UVA, Kansas and Arizona,” the 7-foot Maker said at the NBA Top 100 Camp. “I felt amazing and the freshman they have this year are going to be really good.”
As reported here earlier, Maker is targeting January for a decision on whether or not to reclass to 2015, meaning he could ultimately land in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Maker also holds offers from Duke, Louisville, Kansas, Missouri and Memphis, among others, but does not have any visits planned.
Maker knows that he still can improve his game, even though scouts have him ranked as one of the best players in the country. He is showing a lot of versatility and looks like a complete player with the perimeter game that he has.
On Thursday, Maker went up against LSU commit Ben Simmons of Australia (pictured). The 6-8 Simmons finished with 20 points and five rebounds, while Maker went for 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks, according to Rivals.
“That was a lot of fun,” Maker told Rivals. “That’s not the first time that we have matched up because we have matched up back in Australia when we were younger. It was some bumping and grinding for a bit but we didn’t get matched up a lot.”
Both players could end up playing with the Australian National Team down the road.
