NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Gary Battle says that when his son Tyus was younger, he used to call him up and pretend to be Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.

“When he was a 7-year-old I used to call him on the phone and make believe I was Coach K and offer him a scholarship,” Gary told SNY.tv.

Now that fantasy has become a reality.

Duke became the latest big-time school to offer the 6-foot-5 2016 guard when they did so on Thursday night, and Gary says they are planning a visit.

Coach K and assistant Jon Scheyer watched Battle and Team Scan here Friday morning, when they lost to Mokan Elite.

Battle has recently visited Kentucky, Louisville, UConn, Michigan and Villanova, and has talked about playing in college with fellow 2016 guard Derryck Thornton of Findlay Prep.

Kentucky, UConn and Michigan are among the schools involved for both players.

Battle averaged 22.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game last season at Gill St. Bernard’s.

After Peach Jam he will participate in the USA U17 training camp in Colorado Springs, CO.
