The courtship of Isaiah Briscoe continues with Missouri coach Kim Anderson having an in-home visit Sunday and St. John’s coach Steve Lavin due in Monday.
“[Anderson] just wanted a shot,” Briscoe told SNY.tv on Friday in advance of the meeting. “Me, [Antonio Blakeney] and [Thomas] Bryant are gonna go up there [on an official]. He said give him a chance, I’ll give him a chance.”
Briscoe and the others are expected to take an official to Mizzou Oct. 10, while Briscoe will trip officially to UConn Sept. 26 and also plans an official to Kentucky sometime next month.
As for St. John’s, Lavin has been recruiting the 6-foot-3 Roselle (N.J.) Catholic guard for several years and has made him a priority in 2015.
The Johnnies need a big recruiting class in 2015, and Lavin hopes to sign a couple players in the fall and several more in the spring.
“Oh, playing in New York at the Garden and I’m pretty much from the Northeast area, so going there it’s crazy, I could bring St. John’s back on top,” Briscoe told SNY.tv at the Peach Jam.
Landing Briscoe would be a huge get for St. John’s as it looks to capitalize in the new Big East and get back to the NCAA Tournament. Lavin can also point to his recent trend of sending players to the NBA, including Maurice Harkless (Orlando), JaKarr Sampson (Philadelphia) and now Orlando Sanchez (Knicks).
Projected as the No. 7 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com, Briscoe said that making the NBA was a goal for him, and was impressed with Kentucky coach John Calipari’s track record in that regard.
