When the Sharette Dixon Classic sophomore game tips off at 6 p.m. Saturday evening at the Gauchos Gym, some of the top young talent in New York and New Jersey will be on display.
The New York Sophomores team is highlighted by Sidney Wilson of St. Raymond’s and Jordan Tucker of Archbishop Stepinac.
“I’m excited to compete with the Jersey guys,” said the 6-foot-7 Tucker. “The talent over the bridge is really good. It’s gonna be a war [Saturday] night.”
Tucker recently added offers from Syracuse and UConn to ones from Villanova, Dayton, Xavier, Providence, Oklahoma, Fordham and Manhattan. He is set to visit Syracuse Oct. 17 for Orange Madness.
The 6-foot-6 Wilson is a long, athletic wing who recently picked up offers from St. John’s and Minnesota and has drawn interest from Syracuse and others.
The New Jersey Sophomores are highlighted by the St. Benedict’s Prep duo of Trevon Duval and Nate Pierre-Louis. The 6-3 Duval helped the NJ Playaz win the Peach Jam this summer, and has recently added offers from Cincinnati, Miami, Pittsburgh and SMU to Villanova, Rutgers and Seton Hall. He will also visit Syracuse for Orange Madness.
“I’m really excited and can’t wait to go against the comp from New York,” said Duval.
The 6-2 Pierre-Louis will visit UConn Oct. 17 after assistant Karl Hobbs recently visited.
The sophomore game will be followed at approximately 8 p.m. by the upperclassmen game.
The New York team boasts Christ the King junior Rawle Alkins, Georgetown-bound big man Jessie Govan of Wings Academy, Notre Dame-bound senior Matt Ryan of Iona Prep and Virginia pledge Ty Jerome of Iona Prep.
The New Jersey team features South Carolina-bound senior Chris Silva of Roselle Catholic, Delaware commit Eli Cain of St. Ben’s and Markis McDuffie of St. Anthony, who is down to VCU, Wichita State, SMU and Boston College.
