Get used to the name: Blake Harris.
While the recent news has been Thon Maker and his brother, Matur, moving to Canada, not much has been said about Harris, the five-star point guard who will make significant contributions in his sophomore year for Carlisle (Va.).
“I want to win a state championship,” Harris told SNY.tv. “Just win a lot of games this year, and become a better point guard.”
Harris will be taking visits to Georgetown and Duke for both schools’ Midnight Madness events. He says he will also be taking a trip to Wake Forest.
“I’ve been to Virginia Tech, N.C. State and UNC-Greensboro so far,” Harris said. “But I haven’t been to anything this big yet, like Countdown to Craziness. Meeting the coaches at the schools will be really cool.”
Listed at 6-foot-3, Harris can get into the lane with ease, but just as easily kick out for an open shooter. In the age of scoring point guards, Harris is a nice breath of fresh air, as he can distribute and score.
Harris’ parents both attended North Carolina, with his father Rolando, playing football as a Tar Heel and continuing his career in the NFL for the Packers and the Ravens. Harris says that the family connection to UNC will play a part in his decision.
“That was the team I grew up watching,” Harris said. “It’ll probably impact (the decision). I’m not saying I’m only going to stay in state. But I don’t want to go far.”
Ranked No. 13 in the class of 2017 by 247 Sports, Harris currently has offers from Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech , Florida State, Cincinnati, UNC-Greensboro and Norfolk State.
Harris played for Juice All Stars (NC) this past summer, and will be playing for Boo Williams alongside of another top sophomore, Matt Coleman on the EYBL circuit in 2015.
