With his college announcement looming in the next few days, Isaiah Briscoe took a visit to St. John’s on Saturday for their 97-71 exhibition win over St. Thomas Aquinas.
The 6-foot-3 Briscoe called the visit “great” via a text to SNY.tv, adding, “Nice crowd. They really know how to make some noise.”
The Roselle (N.J.) Catholic point guard is considering St. John’s, Kentucky and UConn and is expected to announce during the early signing period Nov. 12-19, possibly as soon as this week.
His father, George, told SNY.tv by phone Saturday that no date has been finalized but they hope to announce on ESPNU.
“It’s a real possibility that it’s going to be on ESPN or it’s going to be at Roselle Catholic [High] School,” George said.
Briscoe has taken official visits to all three schools and coaches from the schools have also visited him at RC. Briscoe also recently attended a St. John’s practice at Madison Square Garden.
St. John’s coach Steve Lavin recently said he would find the best players wherever they were.
“It just comes down to where are the players?” Lavin said at Big East media day. “And wherever the players are, then we go after them. So when Maurice Harkless was in our back yard, we signed him. When Chris Obekpa was at Long Island Our Savior, we signed him. When you have a chance to get D’Angelo Harrison in Houston or Phil Greene out of Chicago or Dom Pointer out of Detroit or JaKarr Sampson out of Ohio or Rysheed Jordan out of Philadelphia or this kid Amar Alibegovic from Bosnia through Rome, we’re going to find them.”
In the exhibition win, D’Angelo Harrison had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Phil Greene IV scored 21 points and Rysheed Jordan added 17 points. Sir’Dominic Pointer added 13 points and freshman big man Adonis De La Rosa had 10. Junior big man Chris Obekpa did not play because of a sprained ankle….St. John’s opens the regular season Friday at home against NJIT.
