Rutgers Assistant Coach Greg Vetrone got a chance to watch Dr. Phillips (Fla.) wing Jonathan Laurent on Friday night.
“Rutgers is definitely top four on my list,” Laurent told SNY.tv. “That’s one of the schools that I want to visit.”
Laurent said that he doesn’t plan on releasing his top four schools, but insisted that Rutgers was a favorite of his.
Rutgers has three players already signed on to play for the Scarlet Knights in 2015, Corey Sanders, Justin Goode and KeJuan Johnson. Laurent said that playing with Sanders, who is also from Florida, would be a great experience.
“Of course it would be fun,” Laurent said. “Playing with him would definitely be a plus. We are both energy type players so I feel like we would both be a big boost to the program.”
Laurent has offers from Alabama, Georgia Tech, Boston University, Fairfield, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida International, Morehead State, Central Florida and Western Kentucky.
At 6-foot-6, Laurent plays with athleticism and toughness with the ability to take it to the hole as well as knock down the perimeter jumpshot. He is averaging 17.7 points per game so far for Dr. Phillips through three games.
