ELIZABETH, N.J. — Like most younger siblings, Kevin Boyle idolized his older brother, Neil.

But it wasn’t until Neil passed away last weekend after a two-year battle with cancer that Kevin truly understood the impact his brother, 48, had on so many lives.

Thousands of people, including New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine and all the members of the St. Patrick basketball program, attended the funeral on Wednesday to pay their last respects to Neil, a highly respected business agent with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 102.

Here are couple of other notes off the game itself:

**St. Patrick sophomore forward Michael Gilchrist could potentially return to play this season in the state tournament.

He was misdiagnosed with a broken foot and actually just has bone chips in his ankle, Boyle said. “He could potentially return in 7-10 days,” the coach said. No decision has been made on whether the 6-foot-7 Gilchrist will return, but he could potentially play against St. Anthony or Paterson Catholic in the Non-Public B final March 11 at Rutgers.

**St. Pat’s (23-3) won by 13 points despite the fact that George Mason-bound forward Paris Bennett managed just nine points and North Carolina-bound guard Dexter Strickland had 4. Derrick Gordon led the Celtics with 13 points and Kyrie Irving added 12.

**Among the coaches on hand checking out Gilchrist and Irving were Rutgers assistant Craig Carter and Seton Hall assistant Scott Adubato, whom I consulted about whether or not to pay an exorbitant price to see Van Morrison Friday night at MSG. I might have to work some magic for a free/cheap ticket. Anybody out there got one?
