After Harry Giles and his Wesleyan Christian teammates played the North Carolina JV team on Saturday, Dick Vitale called it an “unfair advantage” during ESPN’s broadcast of the Louisville-North Carolina game.
Vitale said North Carolina was gaining a recruiting edge by hosting the 6-foot-10 Giles, whom Vitale called a “special” talent.
Giles Tweeted before the game: “Game today against UNC JV team at The Dean Dome so if you’re in the area everybody come out and support!”
Giles and this teammates planned to then watch North Carolina edge Louisville, 72-71, in ACC action.
“I’m definitely looking forward to our game Saturday because we play against the UNC JV team and we get to play in the Dean Dome,” Giles wrote in his recent USA Today blog. “It’s cool because they’re, obviously, one of the schools recruiting me and anytime you get a chance to play on a floor like that, with all that history, it’s fun.
“It’ll give me a chance to see what it’d be like if that’s where I played in college.”
Giles also wrote in the blog that he’s not reclassifying to 2015 and doesn’t have a school list yet.
“Just to clear up a few rumors; I’m not reclassifying to 2015, I’m not committed to UNC or Duke or anywhere else and, no, I don’t have a top five,” he wrote.
He added: “I’m still talking to my boys Dennis Smith and Jayson Tatum about teaming up in college. I talk to them almost every day in some way because they’re my boys first and foremost.
“I think college coaches are slowly but surely starting to see that we want to play together too because they’re starting to talk to us more about wanting all three”
According to Evan Daniels of Scout, North Carolina also hosted Jaylen Brown, Brandon Ingram, Luke Maye, Jalek Felton and Matt Coleman.
