thon_maker_dunkA pair of 2016 Canadian stars who may end up reclassing to 2015 and landing on college campuses next fall headline the Big Apple Basketball Invitational this weekend at Baruch College.

Thon Maker, a 7-foot athletic freak originally from South Sudan, and Jamal Murray, a 6-5 combo guard from Kitchener, Ontario, headline the Orangeville Prep team that will be showcased in the last of five games on Saturday. There are also four games set for Monday.

Maker, who has drawn comparisons to Kevin Garnett and Kevin Durant, is attempting to reclass and is expected to decide by early February whether or not he can. Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri and Wake Forest are among the schools involved.

Murray might also reclass and is hearing from Illinois, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, Wake Forest and others.

Other notable players expected at the event include 2017 wing Jordan Tucker of Archbishop Stepinac, 2016 forward Omari Spellman of The MacDuffie School, 2016 forward Travis Atson of South Kent, 2017 guard Tremont Waters of South Kent, 2016 guard T.J. Gibbs of Seton Hall Prep, 2016 guard Devonte Green of Long Island Lutheran and 2016 guard Ray Salnave of Cardozo.

Three of the four teams in the SNY Invitational will be on display  in LuHi, Cardozo and Cardinal Hayes. The SNY Invitational is set for Jan. 23-24 at City College and features those three schools and Wings Academy.
