Kuran IversonRhode Island has landed former Memphis sophomore forward Kuran Iverson.

He will practice with the Rams throughout the remainder of the academic year and will be eligible to compete at the conclusion of the fall 2015 final exam schedule.

“Kuran is a talented, versatile, athletic player that fits our program’s style of play,” said head coach Dan Hurley. “We are excited about his desire to be a part of our hard-working culture at Rhode Island and get his career back on track as a high-level, top-rated recruit coming out of high school.”

Hurley has done well with transfers, including Gil Biruta (Rutgers),  Jarelle Reischel (Rice) and Biggie Minnis (Texas Tech).

If sophomore guard E.C. Matthews, a projected 2016 Draft pick, stays for next season, the Rams will be loaded in 2015-16.

The 6-foot-9 cousin of Allen Iverson is transferring from Memphis after being suspended from the team twice.

The Hartford, Conn. native was rated as one of the top high school players in the country by all the major recruiting services during his final prep season in 2012-13 – Rivals.com (No. 28), ESPN.com (No. 33) and Scout.com (No. 53). He averaged 17.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists for Fishburne Military School as a senior, helpingg lead FMS to a 27-7 overall record and trip to the quarterfinals of the National Prep School Championship.

He initially considered UConn and Florida before choosing Memphis.
