St. John’s fans will have to give up hope of landing Bobby Maze.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Maze committed to Tennessee after visiting the school Tuesday, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.
“The plane landed and I breathed in that Knoxville air,’’ Maze, who visited Cincinnati and was slated to see Kentucky this weekend, told the Sentinel. “You see those seats in the arena and how high they go up, and all the sellout crowds, the Jumbotron screens everywhere, the practice facility. You have every tool here to be successful.’’
Maze, who transferred from Oklahoma to Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, averaged 20.7 points, 6.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game last season and led the Blue Dragons with 55 steals. He was a junior college All-American.
Maze is a much needed acquisition for the Vols, who on Friday announced that point guard Ramar Smith and forward Duke Crews were dismissed for undisclosed reasons.
