  • Derryck Thornton ’50-50′ on Reclassing to 2015, Considering Louisville, Duke

    Henderson (NV) Findlay Prep point guard Derryck Thornton is “50-50” on reclassing to 2015 from 2016 and is considering playing for Louisville and Duke next season, his father told SNY.tv on Thursday.

    The news was first reported by Scout.com.

    Louisville coach Rick Pitino, who needs a point guard for next season, met Thursday with Thornton and his father, Tank Thornton.

    “He wants Derryck to come in and thinks he’s the best point guard in high school,” Tank Thornton told SNY.tv by phone. “He feels like with his instruction, he could win a national championship. He’s the right kind of point guard, right kind of player. He feels like Derryck, with the guys he’s got coming in, they would compete for a national championship.”

    The Thorntons will visit Louisville April 19-21.

    As for Duke, which may lose Tyus Jones to the NBA Draft, they are also making a strong pitch, and the Thorntons will meet next week with coach Mike Krzyzewski, who is fresh off his fifth national championship on Monday night over Wisconsin.

    “Yeah, next week,” Tank Thornton said.

    How appealing is Duke?

    “They’re both really appealing, these are two of the best coaches in college,” Tank said. “For my son to go in there and learn from those two guys” would be great.
