10173825Durand Johnson will transfer to St. John’s University, he confirmed to SNY.tv.

“[It was] the perfect fit with a great coaching staff in a good system,” Johnson said. “Why not be a part of something special?”

He is immediately eligible to play.

SJU hosted the transferring Pittsburgh small forward this week.

The 6-6 Johnson averaged 8.8 points and 1.4 rebounds last season at Pitt.

Johnson told SNY.tv he’s also working to recruit his former Brewster (N.H.) Academy teammate Elijah Carter to St. John’s. Carter has been contacted by several schools, including the Red Storm.

Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com first reported the Johnson transfer.
