Sterling Gibbs Enjoys Ohio State Visit, Decision Expected Soon
Transferring Seton Hall point guard Sterling Gibbs left his weekend visit to Ohio State with a scholarship offer and expects to decide on his next destination soon.
The 6-foot-2 Gibbs will visit UConn beginning Wednesday and has already visited Pittsburgh, the alma mater of his older brother, Ashton Gibbs.
“Ohio State was a great visit,” Sterling told SNY.tv. “Me and my family really enjoyed the coaches and were able to get a good feel for what they have planned for next year.”
Ohio State lost freshman scoring guard D’Angelo Russell to the NBA Draft, where he is expected to be a Top-5 pick. The Buckeyes also lost senior Shannon Scott.
“It’s a great school,” Temple Gibbs told the Columbus Dispatch. “It would be a great situation for him. He’s a fifth-year guy, and it would be an opportunity for him to come into a new situation.”
The 6-foot-2 point guard is down to Pittsburgh, Ohio State, UConn, Baylor, N.C. State and VCU, but it remains unclear if he will take other visits after tripping to UConn. He told SNY.tv Monday morning he hasn’t cut his list from the original six.
“I don’t want to say anything until we’re lined up definitely,” Temple told SNY.tv before the Ohio State visit.
Gibbs was a second-team all-Big East selection this past season, averaging 16.3 points and 3.8 assists a game. He is ranked the No. 1 transfer on ESPN’s transfer list. He will be immediately eligible wherever he lands.
“I’m hoping [he decides] soon,” Temple told SNY.tv last week. “I can’t say a timetable, but I’m hoping soon.”
Asked what they would be looking for in a new school, Temple said, “We only have one year, it’s gotta be a great fit for him. We can’t make a mistake on this.”
