It remains unclear if he will go to college in 2015 or ’16.By MATT JESSEN-HOWARDMINNEAPOLIS – After competing last year with Ohio Basketball Club on the Adidas Gauntlet and City Rocks in EYBL, Maverick Rowan is now playing for Each 1 Teach 1, based out of Florida.
Rowan is averaging a team high 19.2 points for E1T1, and shooting an efficient 51 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from three.
The Class of 2016 lacks a lot of elite three-point shooters, but Rowan has cemented himself as one of the top shooters in the class. Don’t try telling him that he’s just a shooter, however.
“I can do other things besides shooting,” he told SNY.tv. “I can score off the dribble, I can create for others. I can do a lot of other things others than shoot.”
Because of he has developed skill across many facets of the game, Rowan has picked up offers from Florida, Iowa State, Louisville, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, UCLA, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
“Everyone I think followed me pretty close in April,” he said. “I don’t think there was any specific school (that stuck out). Pretty much everyone is after me the hardest. They’re all trying to get me to cut my list down. They’re all coming after me pretty hard. There are a bunch of schools on that list, but I can’t really name them right now.”
Rowan visited Louisville in March, and came away impressed.
“I took a visit to Louisville,” he said. “It was a great visit and great experience at Louisville. They won a tough game on Senior Night against Virginia. I’m talking to all of their coaches, and I have a great relationship with them.”
Reports have circulated that Rowan might be committing within the week, enrolling in a summer school, and then starting college ball this fall – a year early. However, Rowan didn’t mention reclassifying on Monday.
“I don’t have a timeline for my recruitment or commitment at this point,” he said. “I would like to take another visit maybe in the fall or next wintertime, so I can see that school practice and maybe play.”
The most important factor in his decision will be playing time.
“I’m not going to go to a place where I’m not going to play right away,” he said, “and that’s just the bottom line.”
