Samir Doughty has committed to VCU.
“Im extremely proud to announce that I’ve committed to VCU #AllGloryToGod #LETSGORAMS #A10,” Doughty tweeted.
Doughty, a former St. John’s commit under Steve Lavin, said that there were multiple reasons behind his decision.
“Great family atmosphere,” Doughty told SNY.tv. “The campus is really nice and distance wise it’s close enough for my family and friends to see me play a lot. On my visit I could tell Coach [Will] Wade and the other coaches really cared for the players growth and development. Academically, I saw how they made sure you stayed on top of your work, and I need that structure.”
A guard who can be used in multiple ways, Doughty believes that his versatility is something that he can bring to VCU’s system under Wade.
“I think I’m a guard that can play either backcourt position,” Doughty said. “I can be a pest with my length and quickness on defense, especially how they press at VCU. Coach Wade talked a lot about toughness and where being from a city like Philly, that fits me perfectly.”
As a senior at Math Civics & Sciences HS in Philadelphia, Doughty averaged 24.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.
He joins Gerron Scissum, junior college transfer Ahmed Hamdy Mohamed and grad student Korey Billbury as newcomers to the Rams next year.
CISSE TO LIU-BROOKLYN
LIU Brooklyn got a solid pickup last night in the Class of 2015 when they added Ganlandou Cisse from Roselle Catholic (N.J.), the reigning New Jersey Tournament of Champions winner.
“We are very happy for G and his commitment,” Roselle Catholic head coach Dave Boff told SNY.tv. “We think he’s going to have a great college career.”
The 6-foot-9 Cisse could make an impact right away in the NEC, just with his ability to play big on the boards.
Cisse joins Raul Frias, Julius Van Sauers, Aakim Saintil and Kwe Askew as newcomers next year.
