Michigan commit Tyus Battle is reopening his recruitment and is visiting Syracuse beginning Friday (today), a source confirmed to SNY.tv after it was first reported by Evan Daniels of Scout.
Gary Battle, the player’s father, was not immediately available for comment.
The 6-foot-6 2016 combo guard chose Michigan last month overser a slew of elite programs, including Duke, Syracuse, Kentucky, Louisville and Ohio State.
“I just felt comfortable and I really enjoyed the school when I was out there,” Battle told SNY.tv then. “The mixture they have of academics and athletics, you don’t find many places. I just felt really comfortable at the school and I loved the school.”
Meantime, Gill St. Bernard’s coach Mergin Sina said Battle will not attend Gill St. Bernard’s next season either and will transfer. Battle lives near St. Joe’s-Metuchen, the alma mater of Karl-Anthony Towns, the projected No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft, and Battle’s younger brother will attend that school.
“He’s not coming back to Gill, no,” Sina said. “He’s a great kid and he fit well at Gill. I’m disappointed to see him go.”
ROSELLE CATHOLIC, ST. BENEDICT’S ADDING TRANSFERS
In other New Jersey transfer news, sophomore point guard Leondre Washington will transfer to Roselle Catholic from Teaneck, sources told SNY.tv. Washington will help offset the loss of Kentucky-bound Isaiah Briscoe.
Meantime, St. Benedict’s Prep is adding a slew of talented players, including 2017s Andre Rafus (Baltimore), Malik Zachary (Syracuse), Daniel Mading (Florida) and possibly David Beatty (Philadelphia), head coach Mark Taylor told SNY.tv.
