The United States U19 team rolled into the semifinals of the World Championship in Greece with an 86-65 victory over Italy on Friday.
Villanova-bound Jalen Brunson led the Americans with 17 points and five assists and uncommitted 2016 forward Harry Giles went for 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Arizona-bound guard Allonzo Trier rolled his ankle in the game and departed early, according to Luke Winn of SI.com.
The U.S. will face the Greece-Spain winner in Saturday’s semifinals.
Canada, meantime, lost to Croatia, 84-71, in the quarterfinals.
Justin Jackson finished the game with 20 points on 7-for-18 shooting to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists while Dillon Brooks chipped in with 17 points. Luka Bozic from Croatia finished with 20 points while shooting 50 percent from the field.
In other news from the U19 World Championship, Croatia’s Dragan Bender, a projected top-5 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, was sidelined due to a sneaker war. He wears adidas but Croatia has a deal with Jordan Brand. Winn has the story here on SI.com.
