Trevon Duval has transferred to Advanced Prep International in Dallas, the school formerly known as Prime Prep, Trevon’s father, Trevor told SNY.tv.
“I wanted to go to a place that was high level with everything from the players to the staff, I’ll be playing with Terrance Ferguson and Billy Preston and I can learn from Coach Ray (Forsett) so it’s something I’m really excited about,” Duval told Jason Jordan of USA Today.
The 6-foot-3 2017 floor general spent last season at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J.
“We’re looking to see what the best situation is because we feel as a family these two years are very critical as a person for his development as a basketball player,” Trevor Duval told SNY.tv last month.
“St. Benedict’s is a good school. There’s other good schools so we just don’t want to put all the eggs in one basket.”
Duval, who wowed NBA scouts and college coaches alike this summer, is currently ranked No. 1 in the Class of 2017 by 247Sports.com and No. 4 by ESPN.com.
He will team up at his new school with the Alabama-bound Ferguson and Preston, with whom Duval played at the recent Under Armour Elite 24 Game. Both players also recently took unofficial visits to Maryland.
Duval told Jordan that one of the influences in his decision was the development that Emmanuel Mudiay made under Forsett.
“I’ve been watching E-Man since he was younger and I’ve seen how much he’s grown under Coach Ray,” Duval said. “I definitely want to learn and get better and I’m excited about this new situation.”
Meantime, Forsett said API, which will play in the Texas Christian Athletic League, has no connection to the ill-fated Prime Prep. The API website is still under construction.
“We’re starting off fresh and new with API and Trevon understands that,” Forsett told USA Today. “The only thing that we want to do is to put these kids in the best possible situation to be the best student athletes. It’s a fresh situation and we’re definitely happy to have Trevon on board.”
