  • Chris Mullin Fills Out St. John’s Staff With Mitch Richmond, Greg St. Jean

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
UnknownMitch Richmond, a former running buddy of Chris Mullin’s with the Golden State Warriors, has joined Mullins St. John’s staff as a special assistant.

Richmond is a six-time NBA All-Star and five-time All-NBA selection who is enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

His addition to the staff should help St. John’s on the recruiting front as it provides yet another former NBA player to the mix. Richmond is also the first African-American addition to Mullin’s staff.

“Mitch is committed to helping us build this program and develop an environment for sustained success at St. John’s,” Mullin in a release. “He has tremendous basketball insight, a vision for the game and a passion to share his knowledge. Obviously, his experience in different roles throughout his career as a player, scout and mentor will have an impact in many areas.”

Richmond spent six years working in the Golden State Warriors front office. He rejoined the organization in 2004 as a Special Assistant, serving in the role for three seasons before being promoted to the Director of Player Personnel from 2007-2009. For the past two years (2013-2015), Richmond worked with the Sacramento Kings organization as Special Assistant to the General Manger.

“I am really excited to begin this new chapter of my basketball career at St. John’s University,” said Richmond. “Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to learn from great coaches who were mentors on and off the court. I look forward to passing along this knowledge and putting in the work to help elevate this program. Mully and I were always coaches on the floor, so I am thrilled to join him for this new venture.”

Mullin also named Greg St. Jean as assistant coach. A Wesleyan University graduate, St. Jean is the son of former NBA coach Garry St. Jean.

“Greg is a star in the making,” Mullin said. “At such a young age, he has already put in a tremendous amount of time and energy into the profession of coaching. As a result, he has developed a unique combination of on-court skill development and conditioning experience, and infuses positive energy into everything he does. Greg wakes up each morning thinking about how he can make St. John’s better, make each individual better, and help our coaching staff.”
