DETROIT –– This was supposed to be the year of the Big East.
It was supposed to be the year that one of the conference’s many powerhouse teams won a national championship.
Or at least had an opportunity to play for one.
Instead, North Carolina of the ACC and Michigan State of the Big 10 will meet for the NCAA title Monday night at Ford Field. Roy Williams and the Tar Heels (33-4) are seeking their fifth national championship, while Tom Izzo and the Spartans (31-6) are looking for their third.
