Tremont Waters, the 5-11, 160-pound point guard from Notre Dame (CT) High School, committed to Georgetown over Indiana and Kentucky on Wednesday.

“After many discussions with my parents I will be attending Georgetown University,” said Waters.

Allen Iverson is a great example of what I can become or better. Also the feeling I had when I went to Georgetown. Everyone pretty much want me there, it’s just a family.”

Waters was initially considering seven schools and has already taken officials to Kansas (Oct. 1), Indiana (Sept. 23), Kentucky (Sept. 16), and Georgetown (Sept. 9). He took an unofficial to Georgetown last week (Oct. 15), which triggered an NCAA violation by the Hoyas because they publicized a picture of Waters with the team.

Ranked the No. 10 point guard in the Class of 2017 by 247Sports.com, Waters is Georgetown’s first  commit in this class.

“Tremont Waters is a skilled lead guard who is an equipped scorer, but also a talented distributor,” said Evan Daniels of Scout.com. “He’s quick, a good ball handler and a high-level shot maker from distance.”

“He’ll make everyone on the floor better,” Todd Quarles of the Expressions Elite AAU program said by phone. “Because you have to guard him in a particular way, he opens up the floor for everybody.

“I think his IQ and his skillset is second to none. I think he sees plays develops two and three steps — and passes — ahead of what most people can. His ball-handling and shooting and passing are phenomenal. And he’s able to get to places on the floor with his excellent footwork that most people can’t get to, to turn the corner. And he just opens up the floor for so many people.”

Defensively, Waters is also a force.

“He’s able to really get up on people with his excellent footwork and hand speed. He’s got great eye-hand coordination. He can really defend and really pester the ball when he wants to.”

Waters’ decision could be the first major domino that sets off other point guards, including uncommitted 2017 standouts Quade Green, Matt Coleman, Trae Young, Trevon Duval and Collin Sexton.
