David Beatty , the 6-foot-4 combo guard from Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep Institute, committed to South Carolina on Monday.

The No. 7 combo guard in the Class of 2017 according to 247Sports.com, Beatty also considered Indiana, Georgetown and Maryland.

“Dave is a physical big guard with good athleticism,” Imhotep coach Andre Noble said. “Winning is very important to him. He’s a very coachable, smart player.  I think as he continues to improve his shooting it’s going to be very hard for guys at next level to stay in front of him.  He has very good court vision, too.”

Beatty joins small forward Ibrahim Doumbia and centers Felipe Haase and Jason Cudd in Coach Frank Martin’s 2017 class.

Kyle Rawls, the Philly Pride coach, says Beatty brings athleticism, a high IQ and a strong motor.

“His motor is like he runs off diesel fuel,” Rawls said this summer. “He can play the one, two, either or. He has good eyes, puts people in position. He’s eager to learn….He’s improved a lot, I love him.”

Beatty is a scoring combo guard who feels he can also be a strong leader.

“My shooting ability, I’m a leader and I’m a pretty good play-maker,” he said. “I make plays and I just make things happen so I can bring that to whatever school I go to.”
