The Lamont “Momo” Jones Saga appears to have come to an end.
After decommitting from Louisville (twice) and Virginia Tech, Jones, a 6-foot point guard out of Harlem, signed a Letter of Intent Sunday with USC.
“He texted me and said he did,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said.
Jones is ranked No. 11 among point guards in the Class of 2009.
During an interview last week in New York before the Jordan Classic, Jones said he enjoyed his recent visit to USC.
“It was a great experience,” he said. “It was just a family-oriented atmosphere. It was a great school all around. The kids, the coaches, the campus, everything about it.”
There had been some thought that Jones would visit Arizona because of his relationship with assistant Book Richardson, but it didn’t happen.
Jones is expected to get significant playing time because junior Daniel Hackett declared for the NBA draft. Hackett averaged 37 minutes a game last season.
“He’s going to want to play,” Smith told the Arizona Daily Star. “Obviously, USC is selling him on the fact that Hackett got an agent.”
Oak Hill went 40-1 with Jones playing the point much of the time. The Warriors lost their last game of the season to Findlay (Nev.) Prep in the ESPN Rise National High School Invitational.
“We moved him off the ball because he could score,” Smith said. “Everyone questions if he can play the point but we were 40-1 with him, and he replaced Brandon [Jennings], who was 34-4. Momo took the same guys from last year and made them better.”
