UNION, N.J. — Mohamed Bamba will take his final official visit to Duke Feb. 28-March 1 for the Florida State game, but that hasn’t stopped Matt Coleman from continuing to try and recruit the uncommitted big man to Texas.
“Yeah, I’m staying [on him],” Coleman told ZAGSBLOG following Oak Hill’s 59-47 loss to St. Benedict’s Prep on Saturday night at the Metro Classic at Kean University. “He’s really low-key with his recruitment and stuff. I know he just set his visit up for Duke, but I’m feeling good about him hopefully coming to Texas.”
Texas coach Shaka Smart watched the 6-foot-11 big man from Westtown (PA) on Jan. 29 in the Lehigh Valley Showcase.
Bamba, who will play in the McDonald’s All-American Game on March 29, is considering Texas along with Duke, Kentucky and Michigan.
He took an official visit to Kentucky last month and has also taken officials to Texas and Michigan. He plans to commit in late March or early April.
“Yeah, definitely probably toward the end of March, early April,” he said at the Hoophall Classic. “I kind of want to get home after spring break. I kind of want to do final visits with the coaches and then make a decision after that.”
Meantime, Coleman said he’s also working on getting 6-8 La Lumiere small forward Brian Bowen to come to Texas, too. Bowen is also considering Arizona, Creighton, Michigan State and N.C. State. He has set no timetable on an announcement.
