  • Mohamed Bamba Set for Final Official Visit, to Duke

Fresh off winning the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association boys’ basketball championship Saturday evening with his Westtown (PA) teammates, Mohamed Bamba will take his final official visit to Duke Feb. 28-March 1 for the Florida State game.

Bamba, who will play in the McDonald’s All-American Game on March 29, is considering Duke along with Texas, Kentucky and Michigan. He has taken official visits to the other three schools.

Texas coach Shaka Smart watched the 6-foot-11 big man last week.

“I’ve actually enjoyed it,” he told papreplive.com of the recruiting process. “It’s given me a chance to bond with my family as we try to come to a consensus for what’s best for me.

“Honestly, it’s my decision. I want to gain as much information about all of the schools. Each school has something that I value.”

Wherever he lands, Westtown coach Seth Berger says Bamba will make an immediate impact.

“He could score zero points and literally dominate a game,” the coach told papreplive.com. “But he is also a really good scorer. He shoots threes well and he scores around the basket.

“He has the brain of a point guard in a center’s body, and now he’s got the skills of a guard. So he is effectively position-less.”

The projected No. 3 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com, Bamba figures to only be on campus for one season.

“I don’t know when (Bamba) is going to decide — I don’t even worry about it,” Berger said.

“I stay out of recruitment. Wherever he goes, he will be there for one year and he’ll be great.”

Bamba plans to commit in late March or early April.

“Yeah, definitely probably toward the end of March, early April,” he said at the Hoophall Classic. “I kind of want to get home after spring break. I kind of want to do final visits with the coaches and then make a decision after that.”
