Alec Peters, the nation’s seventh-leading scorer and a projected first-round pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, unfortunately won’t get an opportunity to make himself a household name this March.
Peters missed Valparaiso’s final two regular season games with a stress reaction in his right leg, an injury that has officially brought a tremendous college career to a screeching halt.
The 6-foot-9 forward averages 23 points and 10.1 rebounds per game and became the program’s all-time leading scorer earlier this season, surpassing former head coach and current Vanderbilt head coach Bryce Drew. He was just recently anointed the Horizon League Player of the Year. Peters played in one NCAA Tournament game, back in 2015 when 13th-seeded Valparaiso nearly upset 4th-seeded Maryland. He went for 18 points and 4 boards in the three-point loss. Peters is currently projected as the 30th overall pick in June’s NBA Draft, per DraftExpress. Valparaiso is the second seed in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament and will play the winner of Detroit-Milwaukee on Friday. Oakland is the top seed in the bracket.
