“Off to UCLA and Oregon immediately following,” the 6-foot-8 Johnson said Tuesday by text ahead of Thursday’s visit to Oregon.
As for Arizona, which he visited with Duke transfer Chase Jeter, “The Arizona visit was great. Their message was the team can be a championship contender and it would be a good fit for myself.”
Johnson’s father played with Arizona coach Sean Miller at Pittsburgh.
“It factors in a little bit because there’s familiarity and a level of trust that my dad has with him and that I have with him,” Johnson told Scout.com. “We know him and his family well. I think it mostly comes down to trust factor and familiarity and comfort having him as a coach. Johnson’s fit at Arizona could depend on what freshman Rawle Alkins does. Alkins, a Brooklyn native, is testing the waters and will be at the NBA Draft combine this week in Chicago. He worked out Sunday for Oklahoma City and his high school coach, Joe Arbitello of Christ the King, said several teams had inquired with him about Alkins, including Oklahoma City, Cleveland, Miami and New Orleans. “They have a spot with [Rawle] Alkins leaving, if he stays in the draft, obviously,” Johnson told Scout. “With him leaving they have a spot they need me to fill and there’s a role for me there with the rest of the team there. There’s a spot carved out for me there, that’s their pitch.” As for Kentucky, Johnson enjoyed his visit there and says they’re still in the mix even after adding Kevin Knox. “Yes, Kentucky is still on the table,” Johnson said. Johnson, who averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assist last season at Pitt, is now considering Kentucky, Arizona, UCLA and Oregon, along with TCU and OSU, he said.
