Tre Jones, the 6-foot-2 point guard from Apple Valley (MN) High School, announced his commitment to Duke on Sunday at his high school. The video was live streamed and he also released a video via Twitter after the announcement.
“First and foremost, I’m thankful for the position I’m in and the schools that have recruited me,” said Jones in his announcement. “Today isn’t about me. It’s about what makes me. It isn’t about what I’ve done. It’s about what I’ve sacrificed and what I’ve become. My tomorrow starts at Duke University.”
Jones’ commitment does not come as a surprise as his older brother Tyus Jones attended Duke and won a national championship with the Blue Devils in 2015 and now plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is the first commit in Duke’s 2018 class. He chose Duke over schools such as Minnesota, UCLA, and USC, among others.
According to 247Sports, Jones is ranked as the No. 9 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 1 point guard. Playing with the Howard Pulley Panthers on the Nike EYBL Circuit, Jones averaged 19.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game in 15 regular season games. In five games at Peach Jam, Jones averaged 21.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
