Tyger Campbell, the 6-foot Class of 2018 point guard from La Lumiere (IN) School, committed to UCLA Tuesday, five days after he initially planned to announce his commitment on Feb. 1.
Campbell, who de-committed from DePaul last September, also considered Purdue, Maryland, and DePaul.
According to 247Sports, Campbell is ranked as the No. 72 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 2 player from the state of Indiana. He has taken official visits to Purdue (Oct. 21), DePaul (Nov. 10), Maryland (Jan. 7), and most recently, UCLA (Jan. 27). He spoke with MADE Hoops about his recent visit to UCLA.
“Coach [Steve] Alford and the staff have been nothing short of amazing in my recruitment,” said Campbell. “They came in a little later in the process, but they told me if I came to UCLA I would be playing in a power five conference and be on television every game of the season. I also of course love the amazing California weather.”
Campbell joins a strong UCLA class that also includes shooting guards Jules Bernard and David Singleton and centers Moses Brown and Kenny Nwuba. UCLA remains in the mix for power forward Jordan Brown, who, like Moses Brown, is a McDonald’s All-American. That class was a ranked No. 9 nationally by ESPN before the Campbell commitment.
