High school basketball star Scottie Lewis weighs in on Fox News host’s comments on LeBron James, Kevin Durant

Scottie Lewis, the Class of 2019 basketball star from the Ranney (N.J.) School, weighed in on Twitter on controversial comments made by Fox News host Laura Ingraham relating to LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Lewis, an extremely thoughtful and charismatic young man who is being recruited by Harvard, Kentucky, Duke and Florida, among others, Tweeted:

This is a huge eye-opener. If god is willing I will be getting paid Hundred million dollars to “dribble a basketball” but you know what my voice will speak louder than hers and I’m going to use that to my vantage to talk politics and to talk REAL and to educate others. https://t.co/JrlVAr8PvK

This is not the first time Lewis has ventured into discussing something outside of just basketball. In several interviews, he told me was interested in one day potentially owning an NBA franchise, and that part of the appeal of a place like Harvard is that the university claims several NBA owners among its graduates. Lewis, along with teammate Bryan Antoine, is among 24 student-athletes invited by USA Basketball and the NCAA to compete in events against other NBA Academies at the Final Four in San Antonio.

Ingraham made what are perceived by many as thinly veiled racist comments directed at James and Durant for being outspoken in their criticism of President Donald Trump.

“Must they run their mouths like that?” Ingraham said. “Unfortunately, a lot of kids and some adults take these ignorant comments seriously.”

“Look, there might be a cautionary lesson in LeBron for kids,” she added. “This is what happens when you attempt to leave high school a year early to join the NBA. And it’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball.

James responded by Tweeting a link to a report on Durant calling Ingraham’s comments “racist,” with the hashtag “#wewillnotshutupanddribble.”

Ingraham has since said the comments were not meant to be racist and even invited James, who graduated St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Ohio in 2003, as a guest on her show.
